When working with makeup, everyone wants to achieve that healthy glow. Thankfully we have blush and bronzer to help us out. Blush has a use of giving a healthy, pretty look. It can be used in theater or contouring (Brown, 57). Bronzing can give you a sun-kissed warming glow.
Bush:
To begin, blush has many forms. Powder, the most common formula that blends easy and works for basically all skin types. Cream blushes, makes a light color and is good for smooth skin because it is harder to blend. Chubby pencils, which are easy to blend and should work best with normal or dry skin. Cheek tints, like gel blushes, are a bit harder to blend and give a stained look and are for smoother skinned people.
For power blush application, basically use a color that is naturally brightening to the skin. Dip your clean blush brush into the power, smile and apply the product to the apples of your cheeks. Blend towards the hairline and keep most of the power in the highest part of your cheek bone. When you finish blending and look at your work, make sure it looks natural and soft.
For gels and creams, apply over clean skin or over foundation. Smile and apply it with your foundation brush or your fingers to the apples of your cheeks until it is blended naturally.
Bronzing:
"Applying bronzer is a great way to add a healthy glow all over the face and to even our color differences, especially to the neck"(Brown, 54). To help give a nice glow and to blend your foundation into your neck if it was badly balanced out. To get the correct color, refer to the chart posted below. Achieving the most natural color for your skin tone in key, if it is too dark it stands out too much, if it is too light you can hardy tell you have any on.
For powder application, use a clean and big flat brush. Start by brushing over the apples of your cheeks, nose, chin, and neck area. Look at your face and check if it is blended out.
For gel application, it is harder to blend. Use your foundation brush or finger and begin at the apples of your cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. Apply lightly at first and if you need more, add later on just make sure it is natural (unless you prefer otherwise).
Photos:
The first photo shows before and after shots of bronzing and blushing. I used Estee Lauder blush in the shade Pink Kiss, and bronzer is NYC sunny. As for the second photo, that is the bronzing shade chart to use to match your skin tone to the correct shade. I have applied and learned from this because I used the light tone, Drew Barrymore tone, and used a beige brown with some pink. This has taught me that I don't need much to brighten my face and give myself a healthy glow. Hopefully it taught all of you how to apply blush and bronzer in a natural way!
Which color or bronzer applies to you? Did these tips help you?

You're a very talented makeup artist Melissa! The before and after results look stunning. I also love your easy-to-follow advice, and how you apply skin type to what form of blush/bronzer to use. My color would be light to medium, so I could either match Drew Barrymore or Sienna Miller. I would probably use Sienna Miller in the summer and Drew Barrymore fall-spring.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carrie! I am glad to hear that my post is helpful and easy to follow. I agree that Sienna Miller and Drew Barrymore would look great with your skin tone for the seasons summer and fall/spring! Hopefully you find the right type of blushes/bronzer that you are looking for (texture wise). And hopefully your applications of the products go on nice and smooth too. Thanks for commenting once again Carrie!
